MULTIPLY Functional Maths Program
Introduction
NSSL Group have engaged with a number of education providers to deliver the MULTIPLY functional maths program to our clients. This functional maths course is enabling our clients to not only improve their maths skills but also learn how to apply them in their everyday lives. Working with a number of providers we have launched this course to our clients this project is ongoing and by September 2023 we will have launched and provided the opportunity to take this course up to all of our clients in all services.
How has it been?
This has been a great success, we have had fantastic support from our external colleagues (Central Bedfordshire Council, Capital city college training, with more due to launch). With some trepidation, some of our clients came in and the nerves were very much on show on day one. Since then we have seen clients grow in more than just learning maths, we have seen confidence grow, relationships and team work develop with clients helping and supporting each other. The Savvy Shopper has been an amazing part of the course teaching our clients how to make their money go further when they go out to shop not just for their weekly grocery shop but also for larger items, clothing, and hobbies. This is providing skills of how to use maths in real life and have already been put in to practice to great effect.
Crafts in Maths?
Yes crafts in maths, to break up any monotony in the courses we are also providing craft sessions these include building a bee hotel, making a keychain, and more to come. Even though a break from the norm, these activities are still incorporating maths.Due to the nature of our business, our clients face additional challenges and what is for all intent and purpose a Special Educational Needs (SEN) class, we have had amazing support for our clients with our colleagues enabling them to catch up on any missed sessions. These can be missed for any number of reasons, and along with our education providers, we have managed to ensure that nobody is left behind.
What next?
This is the start of our education program to help and support our clients on their journey to independence. Working with our training providers, we will be expanding our education program to include specific sectors, with interest shown in IT, nursing, and the police force. None of these can be achieved without support and education. We will be creating individual education and 'route to work' plans for each client that wants it. This can include college and university or apprenticeships; reaching out to our partners we are already in the process of arranging these for a number of our clients.
